General Information:

An Eritrean planning to get married in Eritrea, be it to someone residing in Eritrea or a non-resident, must furnish an affidavit of marital status.

Non-Eritreans or Eritreans with no National ID planning to get married in Eritrea must provide an affidavit of marital status authenticated by the U.S. Department of State.

Affidavit of Marital Status Requirements:

  • Current Recovery and Rehabilitation Tax Clearance
  • Completed and signed Affidavit of Marital Status Form
  • Three witnesses with Eritrean National ID and 40 years of age or older
  • Processing fee: $70 money order payable to “Embassy of Eritrea” (Includes Mail Services Fee).
  • Fees are nonrefundable.
