General Information:

Passports are issued to Eritrean citizens with National ID and children with Eritrean parents.

Laissez-Passer can only be used for emergency travel to Eritrea (i.e. one-way travel specifically to Eritrea).

Passport and Laissez-Passer Requirements:

  • Eritrean National ID (for anyone 18 years old or older)
  • Three Photos
    • Size: 35 x 45mm or 1.38′ x 1.77′
    • White background
    • Centered and facing straight forward
    • Hair off your face so forehead and ears fully visible
    • Open eyes, closed mouth
    • Natural expression (no smile, laugh or frown)
    • Prescription glasses only
    • Only religious hats or scarfs are allowed
  • Permanent Residence Card (Green Card) (Copy)
  • Recovery and Rehabilitation Tax Clearance
  • Birth certificate (Copy)
  • Processing Fee $200 Money Order or Cashier’s Check payable to “Embassy of Eritrea”
  • Mail Services Fee $5

FAQ – Visiting Eritrea

A Laissez-Passer is valid for six months from the date of issue.

An Eritrean National ID is a pre-requisite for obtaining a Laissez-Passer.

Instructions :

  1.  Select passport type and read the corresponding requirement.
  2.  Complete and submit the application form and fee.
  3. Mail application package to the Embassy.
